The Power of Divine Absolutes

Christ鈥檚 words are never exaggerated. They鈥檙e eternal truths you can rely on, especially when the world tries to tell you otherwise.

A Man in glasses, sitting at his kitchen table and holding a pen, studies intently the words of Christ found in the scriptures.
In everyday conversations, we鈥檙e taught to be cautious with words that are absolutes, like always, never, all, and everyone, because they can sound dramatic or unrealistic. Statements such as 鈥渊辞耻鈥檒濒 never be good enough鈥 can even shut down hope and discourage progress. The scriptures, however, are full of divine absolutes meant to strengthen us, not limit us. When absolute words come from Christ or His disciples, they don鈥檛 reflect fear or exaggeration; they reflect truth. In fact, one of the most empowering examples was given by Paul in : 鈥淚 can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.鈥

Divine absolutes

Paul鈥檚 statement isn鈥檛 conditional. He doesn鈥檛 say you can do some things or most things. He says you can do all things. That鈥檚 a big promise, and you can trust it because it comes from Christ. Our circumstances, past mistakes, or fears don鈥檛 limit His power. He sees our eternal potential and offers His strength to help us reach it.When you face challenges such as enrolling in school , learning a new language , supporting your family, etc., you can rely on these divine absolutes. They are anchors in uncertainty, no matter where you find yourself.

Here are three more scriptures with similar absolutes:

  • 鈥淚 will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.鈥 1

  • All things work together for good to them that love God.鈥 2
    x
  • 鈥淎sk, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall 蹿颈苍诲.鈥 3
    x

Each of these is a reminder that God鈥檚 promises are complete and unconditional. He doesn鈥檛 back down from His promises, and He never abandons us.

When absolutes are misused

Jesus Christ motions for you to come unto Him and partake of the oil lamp He holds, which gives off light in the surrounding darkness.
Christ鈥檚 words bring light, truth, hope, and direction.

Of course, not all absolutes are divine. Satan is a master of twisting language to tear us down. He often uses absolutes to trap us in fear and shame.

  • 鈥渊辞耻鈥檒濒 never 蝉耻肠肠别别诲.鈥
  • 鈥渊辞耻鈥檙别 always 产别丑颈苍诲.鈥
  • Everyone else is better than you.鈥

These statements are discouraging and dangerous. They create false beliefs that block us from progressing. Satan wants us to believe that change isn't possible and that Christ鈥檚 help won鈥檛 reach us. And just like Christ's words are always true, Satan's words are never reliable.

Replacing lies with truth

The first step in overcoming false absolutes is recognizing them. If a thought makes you feel hopeless, question it. Ask something like: 鈥淲ould Christ say this to me?鈥 If not, replace it with something He would say.

  • Lie: 鈥淚鈥檒l never finish my degree.鈥
  • Truth: 鈥淚 can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.鈥 4
    x
  • Lie: 鈥淓veryone else is smarter than me.鈥
  • Truth: 鈥淚f any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God鈥 and it shall be given him.鈥 5

Write down a false absolute you鈥檝e believed, and then find a scripture to counter it. Keep that truth where you can see it daily, such as on your mirror, notebook, or phone lock screen, and let it remind you who you really are.

Trust the voice of Christ

Light shines on Christ as he comforts and reassures a man in despair.
As we trust Christ's words, they will bring us confidence, reassurance, and comfort.
The world may use absolutes to tear you down, but Christ uses them to build you up. He doesn鈥檛 speak in half-truths or empty encouragements. His words are clear, powerful, and complete. When He says all, He means all. When He says never, He means never; especially when He says He will never leave you. 6
